Fines of GEL 300–500 Introduced for Forest Fire Safety Violations

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is urging the public to exercise special caution when moving through forests and comply with established prohibitions.

According to the ministry’s statement, rising temperatures increase the risk of forest fires.

“Fire ignition is prohibited in forest areas under tree canopies, in coniferous young forests, in old burned areas, in damaged forest sections, in regions with unremoved prepared timber, and in peat and dry grass areas.

In other forest territories, campfire lighting is permitted only when a fire site (clearing) has been prepared in advance.

According to Georgia’s Code of Administrative Offences, violation of fire safety requirements in forests will result in fines ranging from GEL 300 to 500.

In cases of forest fires caused by negligence, the law provides for imprisonment from four to eight years,” the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture stated.
