The implementation of Nasdaq Calypso by five leading Georgian commercial banks is an important step toward increasing transparency, resilience and alignment with international standards in the country’s financial market, according to National Bank of Georgia President Natia Turnava.
Turnava said modernizing treasury trading infrastructure remains a strategic priority for the NBG, and the project will improve risk management, regulatory supervision and operational resilience across the banking sector.
The shared Nasdaq Calypso platform is being introduced with the support of the National Bank of Georgia and under the Georgian Financial Markets Treasury Association (GFMTA) as part of the Georgian Market Development Program (GMAP). The system will enable banks to manage the full cycle of trading operations through a unified international infrastructure.
The participating banks are Bank of Georgia, TBC Bank, Liberty Bank, Terabank and Basisbank. According to the NBG, these institutions hold the majority of assets in Georgia’s banking sector, which has grown at double-digit rates over the past five years and now has total assets approaching $38 billion.
The regulator said the shared platform will help reduce implementation costs, support the development of capital markets, strengthen risk management and create infrastructure compatible with international regulatory requirements.
