Makuna Gabunia, co-founder of the flower shop "Mao Flowers" declares, that flowers are becoming more expensive every year after the pandemic.
According to her, the reason for the price increase was the growing costs of imported products and logistical problems.
"Production costs grew by about 50% due to expensive imports. We do not use local products because they do not meet the required standards. Accordingly, we import products mainly from Kenya, Ecuador and Holland. As of today, the price of 1 rose ranges within 12 GEL. Therefore, demand for large bouquets is down due to the low purchasing power of the local population," Gabunia says.
According to her, most of the customers are local residents, in particular men. But because online sales are very convenient, women also often send flowers as a gift.
The company employs 4 people, but they also add staff during the holidays. It should be noted, that the volume of flower imports increased by 43% in 2023 compared to 2022.
