The head of the Government Administration under the Georgian Dream government, Levan Zhorzholiani, stated that the planned reduction in food prices must be a long-term, sustained process rather than a one-off PR action. Speaking about the initiative, he emphasized that the goal is for every citizen to feel the impact directly in their consumer basket.
According to Zhorzholiani, the government’s objectives are never short-term. He stressed that the price reduction must not be temporary or symbolic. “If anyone suspects this is a one-time PR action, it is not. We are not talking about lowering prices for a month so that we can applaud and then see prices rise again, possibly even higher, to compensate for the period of reduction. This cannot happen,” he said.
Zhorzholiani added that if the government succeeds - and he hopes it will - the decrease in food prices must be continuous. “The reduction must be sustained over time, and we should all be able to feel it in our consumer baskets,” he noted.
