In the first quarter of 2022, for the first time, Russia did not enter the top 3 leading countries in terms of tourist flow to Turkey, this is due to a decrease in air travel from Russia abroad, reads the statistics of the Turkish Ministry of Tourism.
According to these data, in March the flow of tourists from Russia to Turkey amounted to 114.4 thousand people, which is 52% less than in March 2021. Applying to this indicator, Russia lost to Iran (274.8 thousand tourists), Germany (187.2 thousand) and Bulgaria (169.6 thousand). Above 2 million foreigners visited Turkey in March.
Russia did not enter the top three in terms of tourist flow even according to the results of Jan-March. In the first quarter, 360.7 thousand Russians visited Turkey, which is 9% less than a year earlier. The first place was taken by Iran (502.2 thousand tourists), the second - by Germany (418.4 thousand), Bulgaria closes the top three (408.4 thousand). In total, 4.9 million guests visited Turkey in January-March.
Most often, foreign tourists in January-March visited Istanbul (2.9 million, share 59.2%), Edirne provinces (606 thousand, 12.3%), Antalya (450.4 thousand, share 9.2%), Artvin (163.5 thousand, 3.3%) and Shirnak (119.3 thousand, 2.4%), Interfax reports.
