Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office has charged a foreign national with fraud involving a large sum of money, alleging that the individual misappropriated GEL 136,000 under the pretext of supplying and installing heating systems.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation by the Ministry of Internal Affairs found that the suspect presented themselves as the official distributor of a company in Georgia and agreed to sell and install heating systems for the victim. The victim was persuaded to transfer GEL 136,000 to the company’s account, but the suspect allegedly misappropriated the entire amount and used it for personal purposes.
Law enforcement officers arrested the suspect under a court order. The individual has been charged under Article 180, Part 3(b) of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which covers fraud committed on a large scale and carries a prison sentence of up to nine years.
The Prosecutor’s Office has asked the court to order pretrial detention as a preventive measure.
