Former Deputy Minister of Health, Ilia Ghudushauri, has been arrested, his lawyer Dimitri Mchedlishvili confirmed to TV Pirveli. According to the lawyer, charges have not yet been formally presented, and case materials have not been provided. He added that Ghudushauri was detained yesterday, and expects charges and documentation to be delivered today. The reason for the arrest remains unknown until the case materials are disclosed.
Ilia Ghudushauri served as Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons, Labour, Health, and Social Affairs from 2022 until March 2024, under then-minister Zurab Azarashvili. Prior to joining the ministry, he headed the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency and earlier served as Deputy Director of the Municipal Development Fund (2017–2018).
At the Ministry of Health, Ghudushauri oversaw financial and economic affairs. His portfolio included several public agencies such as the IDP and Eco-Migrant Livelihood Agency, the Emergency Coordination and Assistance Center, the National Health Agency, as well as the Medical Holding of Georgia and the Infectious Diseases & AIDS Center.
