Former MP Aleksandre Tamazashvili has sold his 22.5% stake in wine company Wine Kakheti for GEL 3 million, according to a September 10 business registry extract. Tamazashvili, who is the brother of Nunuka Tamazashvili, the wife of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, sold the stake to his business partner Robi Kevkhishvili, who previously held a 43% stake in the company.

Following the transaction, Georgia’s National Wine Agency signed two contracts with Wine Kakheti, worth GEL 600,000 and GEL 840,000, for grape reception and processing services as part of the 2026 grape harvest. The contracts were discussed on the TV program “Nodar Meladze’s Saturday,” prompting Tamazashvili to respond on social media.

Tamazashvili said he did not sell his stake under pressure and described the decision as his own. He said the winery’s technical capacity was significantly higher than its actual utilization, with the facility processing only around 1–2% of the grapes produced in Kakheti annually, despite having the capacity to process 10–15%. He said he therefore decided it was preferable to exit the business.

Tamazashvili also said that because his family was associated with politics and the ruling party, he and his partners had deliberately limited the company’s potential use to avoid creating a perception of preferential treatment. According to the latest financial report published on Reportal.ge, covering 2024, Wine Kakheti had revenue of GEL 7.2 million and assets worth GEL 36.4 million.
