Former Revenue Service Deputy Head Surrenders to Investigators

Vladimer Khundadze, the former Deputy Head of Georgia’s Revenue Service, has voluntarily surrendered to investigative authorities. His former lawyer confirmed the information to “TV Pirveli,” noting that after Khundadze turned himself in, his brother, former Georgian Railways official Koba Khundadze, was released on bail. Koba Khundadze had been under investigation for alleged money laundering and faced a possible 9–12-year prison sentence.

According to the lawyer, the defense teams were unexpectedly removed from the case, and Vladimer Khundadze had recently returned from medical treatment abroad. He suggested that Vladimer may have surrendered after learning of his brother’s arrest, potentially taking responsibility for certain charges.

Vladimer Khundadze had been charged in absentia with abuse of power for allegedly protecting an unlicensed alcohol production facility. A court had previously ordered pre-trial detention in his absence. His lawyer said he had been in Turkey receiving medical treatment at the time.

The case drew attention after an October 22 briefing by the Prosecutor’s Office, which announced the arrest of Koba Khundadze. Investigators seized $1,319,300 in 94 envelopes during a search of his home as part of a broader corruption probe involving individuals allegedly linked to Grigol Liluashvili.
