Galt & Taggart: Three New Power Plants Launched in April in Georgia

Three power plants were commissioned in Georgia in April 2026, according to a report by investment bank Galt & Taggart.

The publication on the electricity market notes that two hydropower plants—Chiura HPP and Bakhvi 2B HPP—were launched in testing mode, with a combined installed capacity of up to 40 MW. In the same period, the 18.7 MW Zemo Wind Power Plant also entered into operation.

Galt & Taggart highlights that the high share of imports and thermal generation in electricity consumption underscores the need to accelerate the development of new domestic generation capacity.

The report suggests that expanding renewable energy projects remains critical for improving energy security and reducing reliance on imports.
