Georgia’s budget revenue from the gambling sector reached GEL 1.8 billion in 2025, according to Deputy Finance Minister Mikheil Dundua. He noted that this figure has increased almost fivefold over the past five years.
Dundua said the data confirms that raising taxes on the gambling industry had a positive fiscal effect. Compared to 2024, budget revenues from the sector increased by more than GEL 200 million.
Addressing concerns about the rise of illegal operators and websites, Dundua stated that their scale remains insignificant. He added that authorities are tightening regulations and increasing penalties to combat tax evasion and unlicensed activity.
According to him, while some businesses may attempt to bypass regulations, such actions ultimately harm the violators themselves. Overall, he emphasized that the government’s decision to increase taxes on the sector has proven to be justified from a fiscal standpoint.
