The Head of Georgia’s National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC), Amiran Gamkrelidze, believes observing COVID-19 related recommendations could decrease a coronavirus surge.

Coronavirus cases are likely to halve by the end of December, Gamkrelidze said.

Gamkrelidze urges citizens to undergo free rapid antigen-based COVID-19 tests. The rapid antigen-based tests are available in 42 outpatient facilities in Tbilisi and approximately 150 medical facilities throughout Georgia.

Earlier this month, the Georgian government decided to intensify the testing program offering 20,000 COVID-19 tests a day. On top of that, preparation for the vaccination is underway.

As of today, the total case tally in Georgia stands at 164 976, among them 137 499 people recovered and 1 540 died.
