GD government has increased the funding allocated to the newly established State Grant Management Agency by over 300,000 GEL. According to Government Decree No. 1052, issued on June 30, an amendment was made to a previous decree (No. 874, dated May 20), raising the agency’s total budget to 814,472 GEL, an increase of 304,272 GEL from the originally approved amount.
The State Grant Management Agency, a Legal Entity of Public Law (LEPL) under the government’s authority, was created to distribute grants to public organizations operating in Georgia. According to the government, the agency will support organizations whose activities align with the country’s development priorities, as outlined in targeted programs funded through the state budget.
The agency's overall 2025 budget is set at 20 million GEL, intended for financing NGOs and civic organizations. It aims to strengthen civil society through strategic funding in key areas of national importance.
Tamar Zodelava was appointed as the agency’s chairwoman on April 22, by order of the Prime Minister. The agency is currently in the formation stage and is expected to begin fully carrying out its functions in the near future, the agency told BM.GE in June.
The increase in funding reflects the government’s commitment to operationalizing the agency, though some observers have raised questions about the potential influence of direct government control over NGO funding.
