GD parliament approved amendments to the Law on Grants with its third reading on Thursday.
Government’s Parliamentary Secretary Vakhtang Bachiashvili presented the legislative initiative, backed by 80 lawmakers, to the parliament.
Based on the Grants Bill, grants will issued by the government-designated Legal Entity of Public Law (LEPL) in support of public organizations.
A norm will be added to the Law on Grants according to which the head of the mentioned LEPL will be authorised to issue statutory and/or individual administrative-legal acts as needed.
Vakhtang Bachiashvili explained that the State Grant Management Agency would be established in March, contingent on the law’s endorsement.
The Agency will allocate budgetary funds to selected public organizations based on the law. Under this initiative, the 2025 state budget will allocate GEL 20 million to support civil initiatives, which will be used for both the agency’s creation and operation and the funding of grants. Ten people will be employed at the Agency.
