GD Parliament approved rgulations for TV and radio broadcasters

პარლამენტი

Parliament has approved amendments to the Law on Broadcasting, which introduces new regulations, requirements, and standards for television and radio broadcasters, with the third reading.

During today’s plenary session, 85 lawmakers voted in favour of the amendments.

By Parliament’s decision, along with self-regulation mechanisms, the state body – the National Communications Commission (ComCom) – will have the authority to respond to violations of broadcasting standards.

Regarding suspected law violations, interested parties are allowed to appeal directly to the Communications Commission. If a violation is established, the ComCom will be authorized to apply the following sanctions against broadcasters – warnings, fines, and, in certain cases, suspension and revocation of licenses.

The rules and regulations established by the law will also apply to news published on broadcasters’ online and social media pages. According to the approved decision, if a broadcaster violated the requirements provided by law before June 1, 2025, the sanctions imposed by the regulatory commission will not be enforced.
