Modern agriculture company GDB Agro expects to harvest at least 150 tons of watermelon this year, including seedless and yellow-fleshed varieties. The company, which started operations in 2022 with a pilot harvest of just 3 tons, has gradually expanded production in response to growing market demand.
Located in Lagodekhi, GDB Agro operates on around 15 hectares and focuses on premium-quality production using modern agricultural technologies. The farm holds international certifications, including Global GAP, GRASP, and HACCP, and regularly tests its products to ensure safety standards.
The company’s main challenge remains the shortage of qualified agricultural specialists. GDB Agro’s management says that the lack of experienced agronomists and skilled workers is slowing development and calls for greater investment in agricultural education and workforce training.
GDB Agro products, including its portion-sized seedless and yellow-fleshed watermelons, are already available in major retail chains such as Spar, Goodwill, Agrohub, and Fresco. The company also plans to expand its product range and is preparing to introduce locally grown packaged plums in the near future.
