Beso Namchavadze, the senior analyst of "Transparency International-Georgia" declares, that GDP growth of 5.2% in 2024 is doubtful due to two reasons: the first is the Russia-Ukraine war, and the second is the war in Israel.
"GDP growth of 5.2% predicted by the Georgian government will not be a bad indicator, but from this point of view, it seems ambitious.
The growth of our economy depends on how the Russia-Ukraine war will develop since it depends on the entry of Russian migrants and, therefore, Russian capital into Georgia, which led to 10% economic growth last year.
The war in Israel, which started a few days ago, has already added to the Russia-Ukraine war, when the draft 2024 state budget was already prepared, GDP growth of 5.2% was predicted, so the war in Israel could not have been taken into account", - Namchavadze said.
As for the reasons for the double-digit growth of the Georgian economy in 2021-2022, according to the senior analyst of "Transparency International-Georgia", the main factor in 2021 was the opening of the economy after the pandemic, and in 2022 - the influx of Russian capital into the country due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
