The Ministry of Health of Georgia has allocated an additional USD 18 million to its oncology medicines program with Swiss pharmaceutical companies Roche and Novartis, which began in 2023. The funding will cover new-generation medicines at special discounted rates and will be implemented in 2026–2027 under the framework of the existing contract.

The original program, which ran from 2023 to 2025, involved a total expenditure of GEL 163 million. Under this initiative, 21 medicines, including innovative treatments highly effective for various oncological conditions, were purchased and provided to patients. The program used a centralized procurement model and a simplified procurement mechanism to ensure timely access to essential medications.

To date, GEL million has been paid to Roche and GEL 58 million to Novartis for the program. The additional funding is intended to increase access to world-standard oncology treatments, reduce cancer-related mortality, and optimize the use of state budget resources.

According to the Ministry, the continued cooperation with Roche and Novartis allows the government to provide both innovative and conventional oncology drugs efficiently, maintaining patient access to critical treatments while managing financial resources responsibly.
