Georgia’s Land Transport Agency has launched a fully digital system for issuing and exchanging road freight transport permits with Turkey, effective from today. The new mechanism allows carriers operating international cargo routes between the two countries to use permits entirely in electronic format.
According to the agency, the reform significantly simplifies administrative procedures by reducing the need for paper documentation, speeding up permit issuance and control processes, and improving the overall efficiency of cross-border freight transport.
The digital permit system is based on a bilateral framework, meaning both countries use a unified electronic platform for exchanging and recording permits. This ensures faster and more secure data exchange, minimizes administrative delays, and introduces a more transparent management system for international road transport.
The agency also highlighted that the successful implementation of the ECMT electronic system, along with the digital permit mechanism with Turkey, marks an important step in developing the international freight transport sector, supporting logistics growth, boosting trade, and strengthening Georgia’s role as a regional transit hub.
