In January-April this year, Georgia bought 1,226 tons of strawberries worth 1.5 million USD, which was 50.2% less in amount and 46% less in quantity than in the same period last year.
This year, Georgia paid 36 cents for 1 kg of imported strawberries, while in the same period last year the price was 90 cents. [This is the importing price excluding customs duties.]
Traditionally, the main importer is Turkey, from where Georgia bought 1,208 tons of strawberries worth 1.5 million USD this year. The price of 1 kg is 35 cents. The second importing country is Greece, from where Georgia bought 17.6 tons of strawberries for 25.8 thousand USD. The price per kilogram was almost 8 USD. Imports from Greece were carried out only in March.
As for local exports, this year Georgia sold 127.1 tons of strawberries worth 236 thousand USD, 219.7 thousand USD to Armenia, and 16.3 thousand USD to Kazakhstan.
