In 11M2022, 33,508 tons of bananas worth USD 25.6 million were imported into Georgia, which was the highest import rate in the past ten years.
According to official statistics, the value of bananas imported from January to November is 47.3% higher than the data of the same period last year, while the purchased volumes are 26.7% higher.
For years, Ecuador has been the main banana-importing country for Georgia. 2022 is no exception. Ecuador accounts for 93.6% of the total value of imports. The ranking of import markets is as follows:
1. Ecuador - USD 24 million, 31,280 tons;
2. Turkey - USD 948 thousand, 1 315 tons;
3. Costa Rica - USD 512 thousand, 712 tons;
4. United Arab Emirates - USD 86 thousand, 118 tons;
5. Colombia - USD 63 thousand, 76 tons;
6. The Netherlands - USD 8 thousand, 2 tons.
Small quantities of bananas were brought to the country from Armenia, Greece and Nigeria.
As for banana exports, in 11M2022, 2,906 tons of bananas worth USD 2.2 million were sold from Georgia, which has been re-export.
Bananas passed through Georgia to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan.
