Georgia’s Parliament will no longer create the position of State Minister for Regional Policy, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said. The post was expected to be established during the autumn session, with Mamuka Mdinaradze initially slated to take the position. However, Mdinaradze announced his withdrawal from politics on August 27.
Papuashvili said the government restructuring will continue, with the Ministry of Regional Development expected to be merged with the Ministry of Infrastructure. The planned State Minister post for coordinating law enforcement agencies will also be abolished, while no new regional coordination position will be created.
Mdinaradze previously headed the State Minister’s Office for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies from April 21 to July 29. The office was tasked with improving coordination between the State Security Service, Interior Ministry, Prosecutor’s Office and State Audit Office.
On July 29, Mdinaradze was appointed Minister of Regional Development for one month, with plans to move to the new State Minister post in September. Following his decision to leave politics, the government has now dropped plans to establish the position.
