Georgia Earned USD 11 MLN From Spice Exports In 2021 - Exporting Countries

In 2021, Georgia earned revenue of USD11.073 million from exporting 4,997 tons of spices.

According to official statistics, revenue from exports increased slightly by 0.3%, while the volume of sold goods fell by 0.8% compared to last year.

Last year, the largest volumes of ginger, saffron, thyme, bay leaf, curry and other spices were sold from Georgia to Russia, China and Ukraine. In 2021 the US will hit among the top export markets.

TOP-10 Export Markets:

1. Russia – USD 4.2 million, 1,730 tons;
2. China - USD 3.1 million, 1,627 tons;
3. Ukraine – USD 1.2 million, 574 tons;
4. US - USD 1.1 million, 235 tons;
5. Philippines – USD 206.5 thousand, 99 tons;
6. Kazakhstan – USD 189.5 thousand, 139 tons;
7. Armenia – USD 170.8 thousand, 73 tons;
8. Uzbekistan – USD 153.4 thousand, 239 tons;
9. Moldova – USD 116 thousand, 51 tons;
10. Spain – USD 99 thousand, 27 tons.

In addition, small quantities of spices were exported to Bulgaria, Israel, Nigeria, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Latvia, Poland, Tajikistan, India, the Czech Republic, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Germany, France and other countries.

During the same period, Georgia bought 546 tons of ginger, saffron, bay leaf, curry and other spices worth USD 916 thousand, which was slightly higher than the 2020 imports, but lags behind in value (2020 - USD 1.2 million, 537 tons). Importing markets include the Netherlands, India, Turkey, China and other countries.
