Georgia Eases Practical Driving Test Rules, Allowing More Minor Errors

მართვის მოწმობა

Georgia has introduced new rules for the practical driving test starting June 15, making the second stage of the licensing exam, known as the city driving test, more flexible for candidates. The changes were approved under an order issued by the Minister of Internal Affairs.

Under the previous system, candidates automatically failed the practical exam if they accumulated more than 12 minor mistakes. The new rules raise that threshold, meaning applicants will now fail only if they commit 15 or more minor errors during the test.

The amendments also introduce new procedures governing communication between examiners and candidates. If an applicant fails to perform, or improperly performs, certain road safety-related actions—such as mandatory safety checks before driving, the examiner must provide reasonable time and an opportunity for the candidate to repeat the action or correct the mistake.

Examiners will be allowed to give content-based verbal prompts, such as asking a candidate to recheck readiness for driving. Errors related to seatbelt use, mirror adjustment, seat positioning, engine start procedures and similar requirements will only be recorded if the candidate fails to complete the action after receiving the examiner’s instruction. Other changes, including new theoretical exam ticket rules, an updated booking system for practical tests, and new examination routes in Gori and Batumi, entered into force earlier, while the revised error limit and examiner guidance procedures took effect on June 15.
