Georgia Expects Lower Honey Harvest and Higher Prices in 2026 – Beekeepers’ Association

Beekeepers in Georgia are forecasting a reduced honey harvest in 2026, citing unfavorable weather conditions as the main reason. According to the sector, low temperatures and prolonged rains delayed plant flowering, disrupted nectar production, and slowed the development of bee colonies, directly affecting overall output.

Representatives of the industry say that the shift in flowering seasons, particularly for acacia, coincided with a critical growth period for bee colonies. As a result, weaker colony development and reduced nectar collection are expected to significantly lower production volumes this year.

Beyond weather-related issues, the sector is also challenged by bee diseases, fragmented small-scale production, and limited export capacity. Although Georgia has more than 15,000 beekeepers, around 95% operate small-scale farms, while only about 5% are commercially developed and export-oriented.

The association also expects prices to rise due to both reduced supply and growing demand. Meanwhile, exporters note that Georgia’s honey remains competitive internationally, though weaker acacia harvests may reduce export volumes to Europe, while demand in Gulf and Asian markets remains more stable.
