During seven months of 2023, Georgia exported a record amount of electricity. In total, 1 140.7 million kWh of electricity were sold in January-July period, while in 2022 [annually] this figure was 971.1 million kWh.
In January-July 2023, Georgia earned $80.1 million from electricity exports, which is almost 24% more than the corresponding period last year. Of these, Georgia sold electricity to Turkey in the amount of up to $71 million, that is, $10 million more compared to the corresponding period in 2022. In total, 975.91 million kWh of electricity was exported from Georgia to Turkey, which is 85% of the total export volume.
Georgia also increased revenues from electricity exports to Azerbaijan up to $5 million. The volume of electricity exported to Azerbaijan is 86.16 million kWh.
The government increased the forecast rate of electricity exports by almost 400 million kWh. In particular, in April 2023 the government forecasted electricity exports until July and expected it to reach 1,001.9 million kWh.
On August 18, the order of the Minister of Economy Levan Davitashvili was amended, and the annual export rate increased to 1404.3 million kWh in 2023. According to the government's forecast, electricity exports will continue in August this year.
