The Georgian government has established a new Central Purchasing Authority, which will begin operations on June 1, 2026. The agency will be responsible for managing large-scale public procurement processes across ministries, agencies, and municipalities.

According to the government decree, the agency’s 2026 budget will amount to 8.7 million GEL, of which 3.7 million GEL will be allocated to salaries for its 109 employees. The head of the agency will earn 12,000 GEL per month, deputies 11,600 GEL, and department heads 9,600 GEL.

The government expects the institution to manage up to 200 million GEL in procurement by the end of the year. It will handle purchases exceeding 500,000 GEL, centralizing tenders previously conducted by individual public bodies.

Officials say the system is designed to improve efficiency and reduce corruption risks. A new electronic procurement module, introduced earlier this year, is also intended to prevent pre-arranged deals by making bidding processes fully confidential until submission deadlines expire.
