On 2 December 2021, within the framework of the OSCE Ministerial, the GUAM Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs held its 38th meeting chaired by Georgia.
The GUAM Ministerial held for the second time this year was chaired by the Vice Prime Minister/ Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Zalkaliani. The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeihun Bairamov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Niku Popescu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba and the Secretary General of GUAM Altai Efendiev.
The Minister took stock of the Georgian chairmanship of GUAM in 2021 and reviewed the significant results achieved during the year, despite the pandemic.
The sides discussed the main issues of cooperation on the agenda of the organization, including the prospects for the development of political, inter-parliamentary and sectoral cooperation, including within the GUAM + formats.
The discussions focused on the security challenges in the region. David Zalkaliani provided the participants with detailed information on the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia, highlighted the facts of gross human rights violations in the occupied territories of the Russian Federation and the grave humanitarian situation on the ground.
At the end of the meeting, David Zalkaliani thanked his colleagues for their cooperation during the Georgian chairmanship and wished success to the Moldova due to take over chairmanship in GUAM for the next year.
