Georgia imported 178,500 tonnes of crude oil from Libya worth $144 million in September, marking the first recorded import of Libyan crude oil into the country, according to Geostat’s foreign trade data.
The oil was priced at approximately $807 per tonne, equivalent to $110 per barrel.
The imports are linked to the operations of Black Sea Petroleum’s oil refinery in Kulevi. The company announced that it received the tanker Kriti Legend, carrying up to 90,000 tonnes of Libyan crude, on August 28, followed by a second tanker, FRANKOPAN, on September 25. Both shipments were recorded by Geostat as September imports.
In August 2026, Black Sea Petroleum also announced imports of Kazakh crude oil, completing the company’s shift away from Russian oil supplies.
According to the company, it has a contract to import crude oil from Libya that runs through the end of 2027.
