“Georgia is the country which especially deserves candidate status,” said Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban at the joint briefing with Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili in Telavi, Georgia.
Victor Orban highlighted that Hungary is a strong supporter of Georgia’s European aspirations.
“We should always struggle in international politics to resolve conflicts through peaceful agreements as soon as possible. It is important for the development. We say that the world is far from that. We, Georgians and Hungarians, are similar, and we do our best through cooperation between the two countries to pave the way for it,” he said.
According to the Hungarian MP, Georgia’s drawing closer to the European Union is in the interests of both Georgia and the EU.
“I remember how Central and Eastern European countries were joining the European Union in the mid-2000s. We created the EU’s competitiveness. If Hungary did not join, the economic growth rate of the European Union would have dropped. The economic growth for the last 20 years can be ascribed to the accession of the Central European countries, which means that the EU needs dynamics, energy and people who want to work, be creative and have ambitions.
If Europe does not accept such people when the time comes, the EU will eventually pay the price by losing its competitiveness.
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, in this context, Georgia is a country that especially deserves the candidate status,” concluded Viktor Orban.
