Georgia-Kenya economic relations - what are the statistics and what potential did Kobakhidze and Ruto talk about?

Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia met with William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya on Monday.

The meeting focused on Georgia’s favorable geographic location and business environment of the country.

The Head of Government of Georgia spoke about the positive dynamics of economic growth and the opportunities offered by the country to investors in terms of access to multimillion consumer markets.

The Prime Minister of Georgia thanked President Ruto for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity and the policy of non-recognition of the occupied territories.

Trade

Last year, trade turnover between Georgia and Kenya increased by 135.8% to 4.09 million USD. Of this, imports amounted to 2.3 million USD with an increase of 77.7%, and exports amounted to 1.7 million USD. The increase is 327.2%.

The TOP-5 commodity groups sold from Georgia to Kenya last year are as follows:

  • Packaged medicinal products — 798.6 thousand USD;
  • Cyanides, oxycyanides, complex cyanides — 735.2 thousand USD;
  • Board or parlor games — 113.1 thousand USD;
  • Sweet carbonated drinks — 56.6 thousand USD;
  • Fruit and vegetable juices — 23.1 thousand USD.

The TOP-5 commodity groups imported from Kenya to Georgia are as follows:

  • Cut flowers and coir — 1.6 million USD;
  • Tea, flavored or unflavored — 553.3 thousand USD;
  • Vegetable waxes — 105.3 thousand USD;
  • Aircraft parts — 7.8 thousand USD;
  • Liquid crystal devices — 4.7 thousand USD
  • As for the first quarter of the current year, the turnover growth is 72.7%, up to 1.6 million USD.

Tourism
In the first quarter of 2026, 100 Kenyan citizens visited Georgia, which is 48.5% less than the figure for the reporting period of the previous year.

As for the data for the previous year, 634 Kenyan citizens traveled to Georgia. The decrease was 13.5% last year.

The rate of foreign direct investment and remittances from Kenya is zero.
