Foreign IT professionals now have an opportunity to obtain a temporary residence permit in Georgia, following new regulations introduced by the Georgian government. Resolution No. 389, adopted on August 27, outlines the conditions under which foreign specialists in the information technology sector can qualify for residency.
One of the main criteria is proof of income. Applicants must demonstrate that they earned at least $25,000 over the past year. This remuneration must have been received in at least two separate payments, with a minimum interval of 30 days between them.
The new regulations apply to three categories of foreign IT workers:
- Labor immigrants officially registered in Georgia;
- Individual entrepreneurs with small business status engaged in IT activities;
- Managers and representatives of international IT companies operating in Georgia.
To obtain a temporary residence permit, applicants must provide:
- An application with a unique registration code from the Ministry of Health’s electronic system;
- Proof of identity and legal stay in Georgia;
- A certificate confirming at least two years of IT experience;
- Income documents meeting the $25,000 requirement;
- A recent photograph and a receipt for the service fee.
Additional rules apply for small business entrepreneurs and international company representatives.
The new regulation also allows family members of eligible IT professionals to apply for residency, making it easier for specialists to relocate with dependents.
All foreign-issued documents must be legalized or apostille certified, though electronic submission is permitted if authenticity can be verified through international registries or other means.
The Georgian government states that the main goal of these changes is to promote the development of the IT sector and attract skilled foreign professionals, thereby strengthening Georgia’s position as a regional hub for technology and innovation.
