Georgia is required to pay $111.999 million to Russian energy giant Inter RAO UES and its related companies under a settlement following international arbitration disputes, the Ministry of Justice told BMG.
According to the ministry, the settlement covers both the international commercial arbitration dispute brought by Inter RAO UES and affiliated companies against the Georgian side and the investment arbitration dispute. The total amount is to be paid in installments under the agreed schedule.
The payment schedule includes seven installments: the first was due on December 31, 2025, followed by payments on July 10 and December 31, 2026; July 10 and December 31, 2027; and April 10 and July 10, 2028. The Justice Ministry declined to disclose how much has already been paid or how much is due by the end of 2026, citing the confidentiality of the settlement terms.
The ministry also did not provide details on how EU sanctions against Inter RAO affect the payments, including whether Georgia continues to transfer funds, in which currency, or whether compensation could instead be paid to Telasi, which is owned by Inter RAO. “Each tranche is subject to detailed analysis for compliance with applicable legal regulations,” the ministry said. The settlement was reached at the end of 2025; BMG had previously estimated the compensation at around $139 million, based on the potential value of the dispute.
