A total of 17,509 children were born and 22,224 people died in Georgia in January-June 2026, according to preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). As a result, the country recorded negative natural population growth of 4,715 in the first half of the year.
Only Tbilisi and the Autonomous Republic of Adjara recorded positive natural population growth. In Tbilisi, the number of births exceeded deaths by 424, while in Adjara the difference stood at 330.
Imereti recorded the largest negative natural increase, with deaths exceeding births by 1,626. It was followed by Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti with 1,134, Kakheti with 791, Shida Kartli with 582, and Guria with 384.
According to Geostat, 10,006 marriages and 6,095 divorces were registered in Georgia during the first six months of 2026. The final demographic data for 2026 are expected to be published by the end of March 2027.
