Georgia To Export A Record Amount Of Electricity

Georgia will export a record amount of electricity this year. The Ministry of Economy expects that the high rate of export will be maintained in August. On August 24, the Ministry updated the electricity forecast balance, according to which 160 million kWh of electricity will be sold abroad in August alone. Annually, 897.8 million kW will be exported, which is 15% higher than the previous forecast.

Exports started from May. Electricity is exported from Georgia mainly to Turkey. Georgia's income from electricity export increased by 337%.

According to the data of 7 months, the country received USD 64.78 million from the sale of electricity on the export markets, in 2021 this figure was only 14.8 million. As a result, electricity is on the 7th place in the top ten export commodities.

May - 269.4 million kWh
June 351.2 million kWh
July 114.5 million kWh
August (forecast) - 160.0 million kWh.
