Georgia’s National Food Agency is set to introduce a new electronic system for controlling and tracing meat and meat products, aimed at making state food safety controls faster and more effective.
According to the agency, the system will strengthen monitoring of meat and meat products and support the development of a modern state food safety control mechanism. The system is fully aligned with relevant European Union requirements.
The traceability system will make it possible to identify the exact origin of meat and track its movement throughout the supply chain, from “farm to table.” It will also simplify access to information on the product’s origin and distribution.
Meat and meat products are considered high-risk foods, making effective monitoring particularly important for public health. The National Food Agency is implementing the electronic system with technical support from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under its NAITS project.
