"Georgia will have one of the fastest economic recoveries and will return to the level of development that existed before the pandemic," Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili said at a briefing after the government session.
As he noted, many factors prove that the process of economic recovery is actively underway.
"There are many factors that allow us to say that the process of economic recovery this year will be fundamentally different. There are many countries where economic recovery is rapid, and there are countries where this process may take 3-4 years. Nevertheless, we can say that the Georgian economy is recovering quickly. We expect high economic growth in May as well, due to the activity we are observing daily," said Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili.
He spoke again about the economic growth recorded in April and noted that in the two-year period, the economic growth in the country was about 21%.
"As for the so-called economic growth base effect - it is very easy to determine what impact the pandemic had on the growth of April 2021, so we need to compare the economic growth rate not in the pandemic 2020, but in 2019 and see how much our economy has grown - that is growth to 21%, which is high economic growth. Therefore, I think it is easy for everyone to determine how high the growth was in April this year, "- said the Minister of Finance.
