Civil Aviation Agency declares that Georgian Airways has shown a significant increase in the number of passengers last year.
In particular, after a 120% increase in passengers carried in 2023, the Georgian airline, which has been actively flying to Russia since the resumption of flights, served 515,113 thousand passengers in 2024, which was a 57% increase year-on-year. According to these data, Georgian Airways occupies 7% of the Georgian aviation market and is one of the leading airlines. Only Turkish Pegasus; Turkish Airlines and Hungarian Wizz Air are ahead of it. For comparison, Georgian Airways was in 9th place in 2022 before the resumption of flights, with a 3% share.
The statistics do not show exactly how much flights to Russia contributed to the growth of Georgian Airlines' passenger traffic, although the company's founder, Tamaz Gaiashvili, was one of the active supporters of the resumption of flights to Russia. The Georgian government restored direct air traffic with Russia in 2023, despite the openly negative position of the European Union and the United States and the threat of sanctions.
