Georgian Airways plans to add flights to Russia, specifically to Yekaterinburg, starting this summer. Tamaz Gaiashvili, the founder of the Georgian airline, spoke about this with RBC.

According to him, the airline operates two flights a day, and in the summer the frequency is planned to be increased upto three flight.

“During the winter, some directions were slightly suspended, but since April we have flights to Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg and Moscow.

We plan to add flights to Yekaterinburg. I can tell you that the passenger flow has increased significantly after the resumption of flights and connections [between Georgia and Russia]. The Georgian diaspora, which was deprived of direct flights, is benefiting from this now. I think flights to Yekaterinburg will start this summer. We have enough planes and I think we can operate two or three flights a week," Gaiashvili said.

According to the founder of Georgian Airways, the airline currently has 8 passenger Boeings and a regional Jet. He also runs a cargo airline. Tamaz Gaiashvili notes that Russian airlines account for 80% of passenger traffic between Georgia and Russia, while Georgian Airways accounts for 20%.

Georgian Airways resumed flights to Russia after Russia lifted its air embargo on Georgia.
