The Georgian government has announced that each athlete who qualifies to compete in the Winter Olympic Games will receive a cash reward of 50,000 GEL for obtaining an Olympic license. The announcement was made by Irakli Kobakhidze during a ceremony honoring figure skaters and federation representatives.
Kobakhidze emphasized that the state values the effort behind securing Olympic qualification, not just participation. Specific financial prizes have been established for both qualifying for the Olympics and achieving podium results:
- Olympic license: 50,000 GEL per athlete who qualifies.
- Vice-champions: Luka Berulava and Anastasia Metelnika will each receive 500,000 GEL for their prize-winning performances.
The government confirmed that equivalent rewards will also be provided to athletes participating in the Winter Paralympic Games.
Prime Minister stated that these state awards are a symbol of gratitude and recognition for the athletes’ achievements and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in sports development in Georgia, aiming for even greater results in the future.
