Georgian Bank Deposits Surge 21% Annually to 73.9B GEL as Larization Reaches 56.8%

According to data from the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), total bank deposits (excluding interbank deposits) reached 73.93 billion GEL at the end of July 2026.

The volume of deposits increased by 410.97 million GEL (0.56%) compared to the previous month. Excluding the exchange rate effect, monthly growth stood at 0.80%, while annual deposit growth reached 20.90%.

Deposit Breakdown & DynamicsJuly saw diverging trends between deposit types:Term Deposits: Increased by 527.79 million GEL (1.46%) over the month (1.67% growth excluding the exchange rate effect).

Demand Deposits: Decreased by 116.82 million GEL (0.31%) over the month (a 0.04% decline excluding the exchange rate effect).Larization & Interest RatesThe deposit larization ratio rose to 56.81% by the end of July 2026—an increase of 0.65 percentage points compared to the previous month (0.51 percentage points excluding the exchange rate effect).

The average weighted market interest rate on term deposits stood at 7.12% in July, showing a significant spread based on currency:National Currency (GEL): 8.91%Foreign Currency: 2.52%"In July, the average annual weighted market interest rate on term deposits was 7.12%. Among these, deposits placed in national currency carried an average rate of 8.91%, while foreign currency deposits averaged 2.52%," the National Bank noted.Foreign Currency BreakdownUS Dollars continue to dominate foreign currency holdings. At the end of July, the US Dollar accounted for 77.16% of total foreign currency deposits, while the Euro made up 20.30%.
