Georgian citizens do not support the presence of Russian citizens in the country - IRI

The International Republican Institute (IRI) publishes the results new nationwide poll conducted in Georgia. The poll shows that 78% of respondents are against Russian citizens having the right to enter Georgia without a visa, register a business or purchase property.

14% of those interviewed by IRI support visa-free entry of Russian citizens to Georgia.

In addition, 8% of the respondents are in favor of Russian business registration here, 5% are in favor of Russian citizens buying property in Georgia, and 78% do not support any of the above (business registration, property purchase and visa-free entry to Georgia by Russians).

In addition, to the question - "Which statement, if any, best characterizes your opinion on Russian tourists?", 38% of respondents answered that Russian citizens should not be allowed in Georgia until they return our occupied territories; 26% answer that Russian tourists are important for Georgian economy, 17% prefer that Russian tourists leave Georgia, and 13% welcome the arrival of Russian tourists to Georgia.

The fieldwork was carried out by the Institute of Polling & Marketing. Data was collected throughout Georgia between September 13 and October 2, 2022, through face-to-face computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) in respondents’ homes. The sample consisted of 1,500 permanent residents of Georgia aged 18 and older and eligible to vote. It is representative of the general population by age, gender, region and settlement size.
