The Georgian Government is offering citizens the chance to obtain an identification (ID) card for free from March 15, in a bid to ensure the replacement of non-electronic (laminated) ID cards with electronic ID cards (ID cards).
According to the State Services Development Agency, in order to replace the non-electronic (laminated) ID card issued before July 28, 2011 with an electronic ID card (ID card) free of charge, citizens should apply to the Houses of Justice and Mobile Houses of Justice throughout the country.
According to the amendments to the Law of Georgia "On the Procedure for Issuing Registration, Identity (Residence) Certificates and Passports of Georgian Citizens of Georgian Citizens and Foreigners Living in Georgia", from July 1, 2024, non-electronic (laminated) identity cards issued before July 28, 2011 will be canceled.
