The volume of the assets of Georgian commercial banks reached GEL 88.4 billion, - it is clear from the financial report submitted by 17commercial banks to the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).
According to financial reports, the assets of Georgian banks increased by 16.3 billion GEL, or 22.5%, compared to the same period of the previous year. The growth of assets was due to the increase in net loans of banks, which reached 57.8 billion GEL (annual growth of 21%). The portfolio of deposits increased by 16% annually and amounted to 56 billion GEL. The volume of capital borrowed by the banks increased by 72% and it currently amounts to 15.3 billion GEL. As of the statistics, the investments of banks in securities increased by 56%, which amounted to 13.2 billion GEL as of August 2024. Considering the mentioned circumstances, the total assets of the banking sector increased by 22% this year.
As for the own capital of the banking sector, it is 13 billion GEL, which has increased by 16% compared to the previous year.
As of the end of August 2024, the banking sector in Georgia is represented by 17 commercial banks, including 13 - foreign-controlled banks (Having more than 50% foreign capital). In August 2024 the total assets of Georgian commercial banks constituted 88.4 billion GEL.
