A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the Ministry of Transport of Ireland and the Road Safety Authority of Ireland on the exchange of driver’s licenses.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has announced that the Memorandum of Understanding, effective from June 25, 2024, allows holders of a valid driver’s license issued by Georgia or Ireland to exchange their license for a driver’s license of equal force in their country of permanent residence without having to take a theory or practical test.

The memorandum defines the categories/subcategories of vehicles for which the driver’s licenses issued are subject to exchange, namely AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE, C1, C, D1, D1E, D, DE, CE and C1E categories/subcategories.

It will be possible to change the issued driver’s licenses without passing theoretical or practical tests.

According to information posted on the official website of the Road Safety Authority of Ireland, Georgia has already been added to the list of countries recognized by Ireland for driving license exchange purposes (https://www.rsa.ie/services/licensed-drivers/driving-licence/exchange-foreign- license).

It should be noted that according to the information posted on the website, citizens of countries recognized by Ireland, including Georgia, who have a permanent residence in Ireland (not less than 185 days a year) can change their driver’s licenses based on an online application or at the National Driving License Service (NDLS),” the information reads.
