Oliver Varhelyi, the European Union commissioner for neighborhood and enlargement, on Tuesday, told a press briefing in Tbilisi there were “obvious” signs the Georgian economy was developing.
At the press conference alongside prime minister Irakli Garibashvili, Varhelyi said “the economy is booming, I went through the city and it is obvious to everyone that the economy is developing, there is progress in Georgia”.
He also added the country had “shown us very clearly that only joining the European Union is a strong and solid goal of Georgia, and long-term stability and peace are needed for this”.
"We heard this message and I came to Georgia not only to say that we heard this message, but also to inform you that we are ready to fulfil this request. We want to help Georgia prepare to join the European Union. We want to move forward together in this direction", he also told the briefing.
