Flour mills in Georgia have started receiving this year's wheat harvest, with the collection process now underway in the Kakheti region, according to the Georgian Wheat and Flour Producers Association.
Executive Director Levan Silagava said the country expects to harvest around 200,000 tonnes of wheat this year, including approximately 100,000 tonnes of food-grade wheat. Depending on quality, locally produced wheat is currently priced between GEL 0.55 and GEL 0.63 per kilogram, with some batches reaching GEL 0.65.
Silagava noted that flour prices have fallen significantly in recent months. A 50-kilogram bag of first-grade flour now costs GEL 47, down from GEL 60 three months ago, easing pressure on bread prices.
Imported wheat remains more expensive, with current prices at around GEL 0.80 per kilogram, according to the association.
