The Georgian language has been fully banned in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Gali district.
The district in western Georgia is mainly inhabited by an ethnic Georgian population.
Russian-language has gradually replaced Georgian in all schools of Gali.
In recent years studying the Georgian language was allowed for only 11th graders.
Now de facto Abkhaz authorities introduced the ban for 11th graders as well and they have to receive general education only in Russian.
The Georgian language will be studied ‘as a foreign language’ only.
