Georgian Packaging’s General Manager Veronika Gogokhia says waste should not be seen as a problem but as a resource that requires proper direction and recycling in order to gain a new life. She made the statement on BMGTV’s program “Women’s Narrative”, discussing waste management, extended producer responsibility (EPR), exports, and the company’s future plans.

According to Gogokhia, the company already processes its own industrial waste. Used paper and polyethylene are separated and recycled into hygiene products such as napkins and similar goods, which then return to the Georgian market. However, she notes that this still remains a small-scale process limited only to production waste.

She stresses that a major challenge remains unmanaged packaging waste generated by consumers, which is why the introduction of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is essential. In her view, without it, waste management issues cannot be effectively resolved. She adds that there is broad agreement in the sector on this need, although active coordination with the state is still limited.

Gogokhia also spoke about the company’s regional operations and expansion plans. Georgian Packaging exports to Armenia and Azerbaijan, and supplies packaging for new international brands entering the region, including Subway in Azerbaijan. She highlights strong competitiveness due to quality, fast logistics, and tax advantages, noting that deliveries to neighboring markets take about two days. The company’s future focus, she says, is on technological upgrades, sustainability, and further strengthening packaging solutions for Georgian cuisine and regional markets.
