Georgian Railway transported 6.91 million tons of cargo in the first half of 2026, up by 10.3% year-on-year. Revenue reached GEL 306.8 million, an increase of 3.8%, while profit before tax and net profit rose by 60.7% to GEL 103.9 million.
The growth in cargo transportation was mainly driven by transit shipments, which increased by 10.1% to 4.04 million tons. Imports rose by 12.2% to 1.77 million tons, exports increased by 9.7% to 585,000 tons, while domestic transportation grew by 6.4% to 518,000 tons.
The main transit cargo sources were Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Brazil and Armenia. Petroleum products accounted for the largest share of transit cargo at 1.48 million tons, followed by urea, sulfur, sugar, and copper ores and concentrates.
Meanwhile, Georgian Railway’s operating expenses fell by 3.5% to GEL 253 million. Operating profit reached GEL 99.5 million, compared with GEL 35.3 million a year earlier. The company also recorded GEL 45.7 million in other income, largely due to a one-off gain from the sale of land by a subsidiary and GEL 4.4 million in insurance compensation.
